RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Guitarist Talks About 'L.A. Rising' Concert In New Video
July 7, 2011According to The Pulse Of Radio, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello has posted the latest in a series of "guerrilla videos" online in which he talks about the band's upcoming headlining performance at the L.A. Rising festival on July 30, noting that the date is close to the 20th anniversary of "the first time that the four members of RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE were in the same room together." According to Morello, the group began rehearsing in early August at Sunbirth Studios in a "hot and grubby corner of the San Fernando Valley." He added that the music coming out of those rehearsals would go on to become the basis of the first RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE album.
Morello also recalled playing shows with another up-and-coming Los Angeles band called TOOL, saying, "We started playing gigs opening for TOOL, who was a local band at the time who had been the subject of a bidding war, and they were good friends of ours, and so we played some very competitive gigs early on with TOOL, which were pretty exciting. I think it sharpened both bands' edges."
Morello also describes L.A. Rising, which will take place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, as "a concert of the city, by the city, for the city."
The event will also feature full sets from MUSE, RISE AGAINST, LAURYN HILL, IMMORTAL TECHNIQUE and EL GRAN SILENCIO in addition to RAGE.
RAGE's last full album release was the 2000 covers collection "Renegades". The band's last set of original material was 1999's "The Battle Of Los Angeles".
Meanwhile, Morello has set August 30 as the release date for his third album as THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, titled "World Wide Rebel Songs".
